It's all about learning!
by Marjan Schaapman on 07 October, 2016

The expansion of vocational training in Shinyanga, Tanzania, progresses with small steps. Not only the students, but also the Ebeneza Group itself is learning!

In the period April to June 2016, the procurement (collection and evaluation of quotations) and purchase of smaller tools and equipment for the wood- and metalwork training programs took place. In addition, trainers were recruited, the first group of students enrolled and selected and a start was made with the training programs themselves.

This went not without a struggle, as the Ebeneza Group had no experience with international sponsors / donors imposing procurement and recruitment rules – as also the Van Doorn Foundation does, because we want it to be done properly and carefully. Intensive coaching of the Ebeneza Group was therefore needed. That presented some delay, but also yielded the desired results. For a number of larger equipment procurement is yet to be done – causing some delays - but in the meantime the Ebeneza group learns proper tendering and recruitment procedures!
